Job Description:
PlayFirst is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to support and expand the network operations of the PlayFirst.com web site and corporate computing infrastructure. The Senior Systems Administrator will manage remote and local Ubuntu Linux servers from installation through repurposing, including application deployment, monitoring and troubleshooting. They will support individual development environments and shared Quality Assurance, Staging and Production environments. They will manage network access rules on an ad hoc and systematic basis. They will also work with the Site Production team, the Site Development team and the Site QA team to balance the required tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Primary support for www.playfirst.com system and network operations.
- Support development, quality assurance, and staging environments.
- Support PlayFirst corporate systems and network infrastructure.
- On call 24x7 for emergency support issues.
- Research and contribute plans for implementing new features and technology.
Requirements:
- 5+ years Linux systems administration experience in a production environment.
- BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent additional experience.
- Previous experience in a rapidly-growing, dynamic, high-technology environment.
- Ability to create tools for task automation in a Linux scripting/shell language or C.
- Thorough operational understanding of; IP network operation and security, Linux operation and Linux system security, and web server & application server technologies.
- Operational understanding of TCP/UDP load balancing technologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple project engagements while prioritizing and resolving time-critical situations reliably.
- Ability to work independently with initiative and little day-to-day direction.
- Ability to operate under strict change control guidelines.
- Ability to document software, processes & procedures accurately and thoroughly.
Preferred
DBA experience
Tomcat + Apache experience
OpenBSD system administration
Cisco router, firewall, and load balancer experience
Debian or Ubuntu Linux distribution experience
Understanding of the 7 layers of OSI
