New this week: have some tropical matching fun with Safari Island Deluxe. Feeling brave? Then play with some monster babies in Daycare Nightmare. If you dare, that is.
Tomorrow we have an interview with one of the minds behind Daycare Nightmare, so stay tuned!
We are so excited that Wedding Dash is finally out! We had so much fun putting it together for you. We can't wait for you to meet Quinn and a gang of fun characters including one very special guest.
Get our free trial of Wedding Dash here. Enjoy, and don't forget to let us know what you think!
I'm sure by now, you've all seen the video of the dramatic chipmunk, the photo of the piglets wrapped in tiger-print fabric being nursed by a tiger and even more photos of cats thinking thoughts in poor grammar. (I can has cheezburger?)
It's no secret that when I need to take a quick little break (and don't have time for a game), you can find me online searching for the latest photos and videos of animals being cute and funny. I'm addicted to sites like Cute Overload and thanks to my mom, You Tube. (By the way, I've given up on turning her into a gamer but that's ok because she keeps me supplied with funny animal videos!)
What about you?
What are some of your favorite distractions?
Have a feeling most of you like games ;) but what are some other ways you keep yourself entertained?
KismetPF and I are having "office clean out day" sometime soon. Unfortunately we are starting to amass quite a collection of half-drunken bottles of soda/water/juice. We recently started sharing the same office about a month ago, and it turns out both of us have the same weird habit: never finishing our drink. As of right now we have about 14 bottles scattered across our room, and our collection continues to grow. In case you're wondering - yes, PlayFirst recycles.
Sometimes during lunch me, The Unknown Blogger (who actually is not unknown to me), and the rest of our merry cohorts here at PlayFirst engage in some board game action. After several attempts to play a sensible game of Apples to Apples, i.e. one that did not end in name calling, we have decided to move on to less subjective games such as Stonehenge and Carcassonne. Personally, I'd like to play Hungry Hungry Hippos, or Mouse Trap, but that's just me. While I'm sure the games I mentioned will keep us entertained for a while, hopefully a week or more, we will eventually need more games to play. Any suggestions? Keep in mind we need a game where more than two people can play, and that can also end within our lunch hour - which is why we don't play Risk.
Stay tuned for my next update, hopefully by then I can convince the powers that be to allow me to put a hammock up in the office.
We're always working on making PlayFirst.com better (seen the new front door
yet?), often in ways you can't see. This time we've got new features that you can
not only see but also use. Members now have titles depending on how active they
are in the forums so if you
want a cool title, start some hot topics or help out another member. It's also
easier to find tips and tricks with the handy-dandy search feature on top of each
page. There are other new things to discover, so explore away and let us know what
you think.
Only interested in the new games? Read on because we have a lot of ground to
cover!
Landlords love February. They get the same rent out of you that you pay for a
longer, more stately month, like December or May, but you only get 28 days in
the place to benefit from it. Or, once in a while, you get a whole 29, still
less than any other month.
What a rip off, huh?
Or maybe you've got a more optimistic outlook on the whole affair and you
think of rent as the yearly sum, divided into twelve chunks so it's split
into bites you can choke down. So then those 30 and 31 day months? They're
a bargain. You're getting them for the same low, low
price you paid for that cheap little month of February.
See? Same numbers, same time, same math, different outlook.
There's a lot of that going on these days. You don't buy music anymore.
You rent it. When you go online and visit a music store and pay money
for a song or an album, you don't own it. You're granted permission to
use that song under certain circumstances, usually to listen to it as
much as you want, by yourself, on that one computer.
Even if you go to a record store in person, and pick out a disc [vinyl,
or compact] or tape [digital, analog, eight-track, reel to reel]
you only own it if it's an older form of media, one
considered obsolete. The contemporary compact discs come with digital
bits written onto them to prevent you from doing anything with it that
the vendor doesn't want you to do with it.
When was the last time you bought a movie? Probably never. Tapes
have Macrovision, DVDs have CSS, the new High-Definition movie formats
have AACS. You pay your money for the chance to see the movie under
tightly defined terms. But you don't own it. You're just renting it.
If you try to copy them or use them in some novel way, someone or
something is going to try to stop them.
How are you guys enjoying our New Game Week so far? We've had a mixed bag of new games come out, from Hidden Expedition: Everest to today's Dream Day Honeymoon (I just realized that both were sequels. I bet fans of the series love that.) If you missed any of the games, you can see a list at the New Game Week page. There's one more hit game coming out tomorrow so don't forget to check back!
I love having a new game to look forward to each morning but there are some games that are so fun that they demand to be played now, now, now! Who are we to argue? Today, in addition to our game a day special, we've got one sequel (Super Collapse!™ Puzzle Gallery 2) and two time management games (Miss Management and Turbo Pizza). While I can relate to the kooky-- er, I mean, diverse office dwellers in Miss Management, my personal fave of the bunch is Turbo Pizza. I love the idea of a pizzeria and serving pizzas oozing with cheese and toppings. Mmm.
Shout outs for games I missed last week: Tilelander and Smiles: Fortune Hunters! I highly recommend trying Tilelander. At first it makes you go, "What's going on?!" but then something clicks and you get it. You won't want to stop at that point.
Here at PlayFirst, we are celebrating Game Week from now until next Wednesday. What is Game Week you ask?
It's seven days of non-stop action! For a whole week we are blasting lots of games your way - one title every day! So satisfy your search for fun, and visit our Game Week page to see a new game unveiled every day. What will it be tomorrow? Only one way to find out!
As for me, I'll be checking out Thursday and Friday's games - Hidden Expedition: Everest and Mayawaka - as soon as possible... as long as I get my work done first. Ahhhh! The games... I can't keep up!
I know some of you can't get enough of SpongeBob's wacky antics and surreal underwater world so you'll be happy to learn that he's back in SpongeBob Diner Dash 2 which will both dazzle and challenge you. And when I say 'challenge', I mean it. Don't believe me? Step into SpongeBob's square pants and try it for yourselves!
June's Player of the Month is Emaline142! Despite a very busy schedule, Emaline142 is an active member in the PlayFirst forums. Offline, she enjoys spending time with her loving family and works both a full-time job purchasing for an international medical company and a part-time job in customer service.
How were you introduced to video games and what was the first game you remember playing?
My dad bought an Apple computer in 1980 and we found games to play on it from there. The first game I remember really getting into and playing a lot was Wizardry which came out in 1981. We used to have a whole group of friends that would sit down and play.
How often do you play games?
It depends on my family and work schedule, usually I can get a few minutes in each day. Longer game playing usually has to wait until the weekends when I can cram in a few hours at night.
How long have you been a gamer?
About 26 years.
What games are you currently playing?
I love to play the Diner Dash series and the Mystery Case Files games. It's fun to replay the games to see if I can best my score or see what other objects I'm given to find. I also enjoy playing Sims 2 and Hero's of Might and Magic but those tend to take more time and that is something that I usually don't have a lot of right now.
What is your favorite game of all time?
I will say The Sims because it was the first game that I played where I got really involved with the online gaming community. I had been online for a long time but never really talked with other gamers. The Sims opened up a whole new world to me and I've really been enjoying being part of the wonderful world of gaming communities since then.
