I finally got Applesun a replacement stuffed dog. I wish I could show you all a picture of the other dog, its head is hanging on my cube wall. Oh, well... one day!

This is my final post for 2007, and I can't even lie - it's been fun. So before I forget, I'd like to thank KismetPF for sharing an office with me (even though she is my secret enemy), Applesun for putting up with my daily torment, Sorbet for watching out for me, Unknown_Blogger for our weird, yet somewhat intelligent lunch conversations(although it is sometimes quite difficult to understand him with that bag on his head), Site QA team for being my favorite site QA team (and yes, I know, you're the only one I know), Design team for letting me sometimes pick colors, although my suggestions rarely stay, and everyone else here at PlayFirst that has made coming to work somewhat enjoyable.

And most importantly, we here at PlayFirst would like to thank all of you for sticking with us and supporting us through another year. Without all of y'all, I wouldn't have a place to call work (well, I would, but I'm sure it'd be pretty boring... unless I was a ghost buster or something).

Happy Holidays to everyone, and if you dislike this time like I do, I wish you a content rest of December and early January.

Look out, 2008!

P.S. I've got my go go go go go go go go gadget flow

The Nightshift Code

As one of the lead testers on the game, it's my privilege to introduce you to The Nightshift Code, the newest game up on our website and PlayFirst's first foray into traditional "hunt and seek" game play. A distant cousin to Mystery of Shark Island, The Night Shift Code invites you to join new characters Mike and Isabel on a jet-setting adventure around the world in search of a missing family member, the keys to a secret code, and an astonishing hidden treasure.

We meet Mike as he's working the night shift as a security guard for the Chicago Museum of Art and Antiquities. Lured away from this tepid existence by the lovely and mysterious Isabel, Mike quickly finds himself on a whirlwind world tour searching for his missing father and the clues to a perilous treasure hunt spanning over decades and continents.

You'll need all your cultural knowledge (do you know what a Chinese foo dog looks like? How about lineman's pliers, a dirigible, a dodecahedron or a centaur?), your top puzzle-solving skills and your best pair of reading glasses for this adventure! If you get stuck in Story Mode, switch over to Arcade play to help familiarize yourself with the clever hide-and-seek tactics and language puzzles of the game. And above all, remember - you always find everything in the last place you look!

Enjoy!

Dress Shop Hop

I've never been into fashion much. Sure, it's nice to look at the latest trends out there, but actually keeping your wardrobe up to date with the hottest clothes? Too pricey and too time-consuming for me (although I do know some people who get a thrill when they find a cute top on the cheap). Besides, the coolest clothes aren't necessarily the most comfortable. I'm more of a function over fashion kind of gal.

Which is why I like Bobbi! She's the heroine of our latest game, Dress Shop Hop, who gets fired over wanting to design styles that make people feel good about themselves. Help her prove that fashion doesn't have to be shallow to be a hit!

So what about you? What's your fashion sense like?

Guess what?

We've taken time out of our busy gaming schedule (both playing and making), to rollout a new site feature *drum roll* PayPal! Now this may not affect those of you who are currently lucky enough to have credit cards, but for those that don't... we are now able to cater to you *and all the celestial beings rejoiced*.

For those of you looking for a different kind of game (e.g. one with spaceships and aliens, check out Star Defender 4 - a lot of guys in the office are playing it).

P.S. Can someone remind me that I owe Applesun a new stuffed dog. I cut the head off of her old one. He was looking at me funny.

Get away for the holidays in our new Diner Dash: Hometown Hero restaurant, Winter Wonderland!

Stumped for a gift idea? Know a chocolate lover? Get them the perfect gift: a double-dose of Chocolatier! Chocolatier and Chocolatier 2: Secret Ingredients are now available in a delicious two-pack bundle.

I've never been a big fan of Christmas songs but now that it's officially December, the radio stations are playing them non-stop. I guess it's better than where I used to live - they'd play Christmas songs as early as October! If the songs aren't enough to get you in the holiday spirit, then some holiday games oughta do the trick: Believe in Santa, Holiday Bonus, and Holly: A Christmas Tale. There are more on the way so keep your eye on the featured game pod!

Why does my mom type in ALL CAPS?

When I get emails from my mom, sometimes they are in all caps. You've seen this phenomenon too. People new to the computer type in all caps when they send email or even post to forums. Unfortunately, this comes off as rude to experienced users. Nettiquette says not to use all caps because it is interpreted as screaming or shouting. It seems bizarre that people coming from a typewriter generation would even use all caps.

I was talking my friend in IT, AirshipJones, and we came up with a couple theories:
  • OH SO FORMAL. The computer screen is so formal and de-personalized. Since caps are formal, people type to match the formality of the interface. People are hyper-focused on transmitting information and not communication. Ultimately they think more about the computer than the person on the other end.
  • 2. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? People are insecure about whether their message is coming across so they over-emphasize everything. They shout to be heard.
  • 3. NOT SHIFTY. They don't know how to use the shift key. When they started typing everything was lowercase. The shift key isn't obvious so people hit Caps Lock and then don't turn it off. They don't mean to be rude, but for them all caps is better than no caps.
Why do you think people type in all caps?
