Hello all. I am one of the developers involved in the
creation of
Aveyond 3 and am
honestly disappointed to see so many rumours and accusations
flying around here, by people who are just guessing.
So I'm just here to clear a few things up.
Aveyond 3: Lord of Twilight always
had that title (forum members referred to it merely as AV3
but officially it was never called anything else).
Gypsy's Tale always had that title (though it may be
changed). They are two different games. AV3 is
due out in 2009. GT, I believe, is due out in 2009 (I
am not involved in its development but I do know it's being
worked on right now). Amaranth can do this because she
has two developers working with her this time around, rather
than doing them all herself (she mentioned this in her blogs
some time ago). Her games are popular, her company is
growing - it's ok for her to hire people to help.
Aveyond 3 is not based on the
Twilight movie. The Twilight trailer was released late
in 2008 from the very quick search I made. The AV3
script had been completed several months before then.
Gypsy's Tale is not based on Bard's Tale, even though they
both have Tale in the title (do a search on how many
books/movies/games use that word - it's ok to use words that
other titles use).
It was announced long before
December that
Aveyond 3 would be
released in 2009, and that further information would be
posted in January. The "deceitful" announcement was
that if you enjoyed
Aveyond,
there would be a new game on December 19 that you'd likely
enjoy as well. A few forum members jumped at the idea
that it would be AV3, forgetting the other information that
proved that was not the case. There WAS a new game
released on December 19 - it was not a game created by
Amaranth (never claimed to be). It was a
recommendation - if you liked that, then you might like
this. Lots of sites do that, and none of them are
accused of being misleading :)
Guild members ARE being
given an opportunity to contribute in a VERY small way to
the game this time around. And from what I've seen,
they all jumped at the chance. Not one guild member
has said they are unhappy about it. Those who DID
grumble a bit were the ones who missed out because they're
NOT in a guild. I haven't heard of anyone leaving
because of it, but I guess if someone's unhappy, it's easier
to go off and complain to everyone else than speak to the
person they have the issue with and see if it can be
resolved ;) Be assured - the "ideas" provided by guild
members are to make the game a little closer to home to them
and those who are taking part are thoroughly enjoying it,
but in NO WAY do they shape the play or the outcome of the
game. NOTHING depends on the ideas put forth, and the
game would be exactly the same whether the contributions are
used or not. The entire script had been written before
this invitation was made, and nothing has been changed as a
result of the guild contributions.
Really -
every person who is loyal to a game series and looks forward
to the next instalment would jump at the chance to have
their ideas put into the game, and many game developers
either consult with, or take forum members' requests into
account when making new games. If you don't believe
this, duck over to the LDW forums and check out VV
threads. I'm sure people here would love for Playfirst
to listen to their suggestions for the next
Chocolatier or
Diner Dash game made.
So that's all the concerns addressed. Just remember,
next time you hear a rumour or an accusation, it's just as
easy to pop over to the forum and ask than to hang around
making speculations, or asking disgruntled ex-forum members,
who may not have all the facts :)
