fourth of july sale: probably a supid question but...

Posted: July 4, 2009 at 06:29
How do I actually take advantage of it? Do I put both games in the basket or just one? When I tried to buy two, I was going to be charged for both games since I didn't have enough play gold to cover both. I was going to purchase WD2 and Doggie Dash. I tried contacting PF first but got nothing so far.

Well, if it's a stupid question, then I have the same one.

I tried to order two games from the 35 available for the "Buy One, Get One Free" group and I was charged for both.  So I have left my order out there in limbo since I don't have enough play gold either.  (I was going to buy WD1 and WD2.)

And, if we don't get an answer until Sunday night, does that mean we lose this opportunity????

I'm glad I'm not the only one having a problem with the sale then!

I guess so which sucks since it seems like a really good deal. I mean, when I got the deal for WD3 and Fashion Dash, I had no problem with it. I emailed them the day the sale started too and still no answer though I'm not surprised.

The top of the sale page says, "PlayPass MemberPrice $7.95 each."
Below each game the PlayPass price is listed ($7.95).

The bottom of the whole list has the fine print, "PlayPass members receive one $7.95 game per transaction. To get the discount more than once, you will need to make separate purchases."

Therefore...non-PlayPass members pay $19.95 (reguler price) and get 2 games.
PlayPass members spend $7.95 instead of the usual $9.95 per game. There is nothing "free" for PP members. If you were to get two games the cost would be $15.90 which is still less than the $19.90 two games would normally cost you as a member and obviously less than $19.95 non-members pay for one

The hook is for non-PP members, but we're still getting a good deal even if the games are old.

Thanks for clearing that up . So I guess I'll still get those two games since it's on sale anyway.

Not a stupid question

Posted: July 4, 2009 at 09:09
You're welcome. It is kind of deceptive. There was another thread where it was discussed when the sale started.

Yes, if they are really games you want, it's still a good deal...just not as good as it looks at first glance. :)

I agree -- only I would call it very deceptive.  If an ad says "Buy One, Get One Free", that's what I expect.  If it doesn't apply to PlayPass members, it should say so in black and white right up front.  Something like "For all your non-Play Pass Members, this is a Buy One, Get One Free" offer.  "For all of our Play Pass Members, we are offering a reduced price on the games below for a limited time.  Just $7.95 per game."

The way this offer was presented, it looked like at Fourth of July special for anyone interested regardless of standing within the community.

Just my opinion, but I have a knee-jerk reaction to false or misleading advertising.  It makes me think someone is trying to pull a fast one on me and hoping I won't notice until after I've paid my money.    :-(

Another interesting inconsistency I noticed was in the fine print at the bottom of the offer page.  It says --

"*Offer is only valid for
the games on this page. PlayPass members
receive one $7.95 game per transaction. To get the discount more than
once, you will need to make separate purchases."

But when I selected
two games from the list, they each appeared in my shopping cart for
$7.95 a piece with a grand total of $15.90.  I did not need to make two transactions to received the
reduced price.

Go figure.

Same thought I had. If that's what they meant, then they should have said it plainly. I see other on-line specials do that. They will let you know who's eligible for the discount right up front so there's no confusion. Made me a bit upset at first but I figure $2 bucks off for us PP members ain't that bad as well!

Yeah, I saw that at the bottom too. That's why I was confused. I got both games at once for $7.95 a piece anyway.
