Hi sweetbird. If you can only play the zoo levels, it sounds as if you've got the trial version. Have you bought the game from playfirst? The game comes with 5 different restaurants and then the ones like crypt cafe and winter wonderland are add-on ones you have to buy separately.

Praise is simply the letting off of esteem

If you buy the standard "Hometown Hero" edition on another site, or the "Gourmet Edition" on the Playfirst site, you will be able to play 5 restaurants (Zoo, Baseball, Museum, Boardwalk, Disco) in story mode.
.
If you get just the trial version from Playfirst, you will only be able to play the first 7 levels of the Zoo restaurant.
.
If you buy ONLY one of the optional restaurants from Playfirst (like only Winter Wonderland or only the Water Park), you will be able to play the ten levels of that restaurant plus the 7 levels of the Zoo, but nothing else in the Gourmet Edition, even if you bought the standard version in another site.
.
That is, Playfirst will let you "sample" the Gourmet Edition by buying one of the $4.99 optional restaurants even if you haven't paid the $19.99 for the main Gourmet Edition game.
.
If you bought the standard edition from another site and you want to upgrade to the 5 main restaurants in the Gourmet Edition so that you can play multiplayer online, you need to get in touch with Playfirst support and ask about buying an upgrade (last I heard it cost $10 and may come with a coupon for one of the optional restaurants, but I'm not sure of the details).
.
So it all depends what you bought where.

I forgot to say...when you get the Gourmet edition, the things that come with it for the standard price are the 5 main restaurants (zoo, baseball, museum, boardwalk, disco), some extra clothes, and the ability to play online multiplayer.
.
In addition, IF you want to, you can buy extra clothes or extra optional restaurants. (Many people have used the example of buying a Barbie doll. Then it's up to you if you want to buy extra clothes, the dreamhouse, the car, and so on.)
.
So far each there are four optional restaurants: Coral Cove Water Park, The Crypt (Hallowe'en), Hometown Harvest, and Winter Wonderland. Each one costs $4.99. You can buy one, two, whatever you want, in any order.
.
Each optional restaurant can be played in story mode (10 levels) or online multiplayer or endless.
.
Once you buy an optional restaurant, it will show up somewhere on the map. Coral Cove, The Crypt, and Hometown Harvest appear at "The Wharf," a land to the right of Hometown on the map. Winter Wonderland appears in "Dinertown," a land to the left of Hometown on the map. To move from one land to another, click on the large orange arrows on the edge of the map.
.
So...buying the main Gourmet Edition gives you the 5 main restaurants in story mode, endless mode, and online multiplayer. Plus the ability to buy the optional restaurants if you like.
.
Buying one of the optional restaurants without buying the main edition lets you play just that one restaurant in story mode, endless mode, and online multiplayer, plus the 7 free trial levels of the Zoo.
.
Buying the main Gourmet Edition plus one of the optional restaurants (in either order) lets you play the 5 main restaurants plus whichever optional one you bought.
.
Hope that helps!
Robin

Gourmet Edition?

Posted: December 12, 2007 at 07:36
I had similar questions to the OP, but now I see that the "Gourmet Addition" is only for PCs.... grrr! So, in Macintosh land, is there any way to create a waiter or diner? Is there any point to downloading the extra games? If not, well, PlayFirst is missing out on a real market, and saving me some $$

Gourmet Edition?

I totally agree with you there! I would buy those add ons in a heartbeat if they were Mac compatible. _

Maybe they will be soon...

Gourmet Edition?

Posted: December 16, 2007 at 10:04
Just thought I'd go ahead and mention that those who bought the PC game at a different site (not playfirst.com) and want to upgrade to the Gourmet Edition so they can play the multiplayer version online and perhaps buy the optional restaurants can upgrade by contacting Playfirst support. Last I heard it cost $10 to upgrade and some people got a coupon for an optional restaurant, but I don't know if they're still doing that.
