Favorite Memory w/ Mom

Since it's Mother's Day I thought it might be nice to share a favorite story or time you have had with your mom or grandma.

I think one of mine would be the summer my mom and I spent refinishing a pair of glassed door bookshelves. We took off the old varnish, sanded them smooth and revarnished them and they turned out beautiful. I was still in high school and It was a lot of work ... but it also gave my mom and me hours to just talk ... and also inspired me to continue refinishing furniture as I got older.

Favorite Memory w/ Mom

My favorite memory happens just about everyday. My mother and me did not get along as I was growing up. We couldn't even carry on a decent conversation. But as the years went on something strange and wonderful happened. Mymother has become my best friend. We vent about our husbands,(yes my dad,who has been married to my mom for almost 60 years.lol) We talk about what we are planning to cook for supper. We talk about things that I never dreamed we would be able to talk about. The need for mammograms.
A few years ago, here it was my mom 76 years old driving herself to the gynecologist and I offered to ride with her. She found out that her uterus would have to be removed. I looked at her and said, Well Mom at least now you wont have to worry about becoming pregnant. We had the greatest laugh over that

Favorite Memory w/ Mom

One of the best memories I have with my mum is going on holiday to San Pedro de Alacantara in Spain. we were in an all inclusive hotel and at night we would go and get small tubs of ice cream for free from the small unstaffed (well- virtually unstaffed) restuarant. It was open 'til midnight so we would go in about 23:45 and have ice cream lol. They had loads of different plastic spoons in defferent comours and me and my little brother had a running joke that we couldn't decide what colour spoon to use so we had to have seven tubs of ice cream to use each colour spoon once,
Anyway one night we went in and I came back with these seven spoons of different colours and my mum sat at the table, pulled them towards her, gave us both a serious look and said...
'this is the white spoon *picking the white spoon up*, it is married to the red spoon *picks red spoon up and puts both beside each other in the middle of the table*. Now, what the red spoon doesn't know, is that the white spoon, has been sleeping with the yellow spoon *puts yellow spoon beside the white one*. Of course the yellow spoon is unmarried, but is fickle and has also been seeing the blue spoon *puts blue spoon beside yellow spoon*...

Anyway, after ten minutes and with me and my brother on the floor my mum comes out with
"but little did any of them now, they were all sleeping with each other in that big basket full of spoons anyway!!!"

oh yeah, and one the plane on the way back from Malaga to Manchester...

Wehad a meal, and with this meal there was a breadcake. She picked it up and hugged it and said...
"this is the lonely breadcake. Now- you may not know it, not many people know it, the lonely breadake is very...lonely. Of course, the breakcake is very poor, and neglected. Noone cares about the lonely breadcake. But me:- I love, and cherish the lonely breadcake. I hug the breadcake, tuck it in at night, and gently butter it. Now, can you provide a loving home for a lonely breadcake!'

once again me and my bro were just crying with laughter.

Favorite Memory w/ Mom

I lost my mum 28 yrs ago this month. I was 16. It only seems like yesterday that we were laughing together. We had a very loving relationship and I grew up knowing I was loved. We did everything together and tho I only knew her for 16 years.....they were the best.

I still talk to her everyday, tell her I love her and say a prayer everynight.

Cherish you mum, cos one day she wont be there!!!

Wow Twinklepooh, it must have taken some braveness to cope through that. I just wouldn't be able to live without my mum. I admire you for that, and very well said too.

It would have to be taking our "5 generation" pictures with all the great, great grands, great grands, grands, mothers and daughters. Then going out to eat. Lots of fun and old stories told that day. I've still got my two grandmothers with me. One is 86 and one 84 they are both in great health and need very little help from us. I also still have my mom and my husband's mom.

On some mother's day when we are all together is really does sound like a hen house. (LOL)

Happy Mother's Day to all!

I for one can never have a truly good day without my vitamin c
Coffee and chocolate.

Favorite Memory w/ Mom

My favourite memory of my mother is when she would get out her guitar, and sing country songs.I always wanted her to sing
Old Shep..and then I would cry..lol..She taught me many songs, and when I got older I had her hooked on the Eagles, and all the songs of my generation.Everyone thought her and were sisters, and still do.I am very fortunate to have my mother, but a part of her is gone, she was diagnosed
with schizophrenia, and dymensyia. She has her good days and bad days. Both my parents live with my husband and I.
So I feel fortunate at least I still have her and always will cherish the special moments we had together..love you mom.

Thanks Daniel.

Its weird because people ask me how I got over it. I always tell them I never have got over it, I have just learned to live with it.

I still have my dad. He is 87 now and going strong. We always talk about things we used to do with my mum. And I love the stories he tells me about her before I was born. Now thats going back a long long time lol.

I always say my mum is watching over me....as she was on saturday.

We went out to buy new beds for the boys and travelled to wigan. After zooming down the motorway and getting lost as usual, we noticed the car was knocking. It had been serviced on thurdsay and passed the MOT on Friday. Hubby got out to have a look around and noticed that half of the lugs had fell off the wheels. The mechanic had forgotten to tighten them.

Instead of 20 lugs we only had 9 to hold all the wheels on the car. What could of happend frightend me to death, luckily he checked it at the right time lol.

Thanks mum :)

Favorite Memory w/ Mom

Well, my mom gave me to my grandmother when I was 4, so I look at my grandmother as my mom. My favorite memory with her is summer nights, sitting in the swing, and gazing at the stars. She would tell me about old times and the difference between that time and the present. I loved it!
