If the people in your party are Mel, Edward and Stella, you should use mel to trip the poltergeist, and Edward and Stella to attack him. You might need to start over a few times, but it worked for me!
I would recommend you to reunite with Tei'jal and Gahalad, it can be easier... You can also download the strategy guide at http://rapidshare.com/files/241568814/Aveyond_ -_Lord_of_Twilight_Strategy_Guide.rar... It's contain maps for goodies caves for ultimate weapon and armory...Wish you luck!
It depends on what levels your characters are at and what items you have. If you don't have the sapphire(Istir Forest) for Edward's Excalibur, he's pretty weak, and you may want Stella instead. Have Mel trip it, and Te'ijal use Drain or Paralyze. If you have the lightning ring or blizzard ring(blizzard ring--Istir Forest) have either Mel or Galahad(or both) use the most effective ring on the poltergeist. Have Stella heal whenever necessary. If Mel's trip and Te'ijal's drain and Paralyze aren't working, have them use any magic scrolls/rings in your inventory. If you have the sapphire for Edward, have him attack with Excalibur. You might want to save before fighting the poltergeist so you can figure out which strategy works best for you(or to decide if you might want to find/buy any of the items I mentioned that you don't have(e.g. buy some scrolls and/or find the sapphire and blizzard/lightning ring(s).) Good luck!
